1. If you love the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, then read Magonia by Maria Dahvana-Headley.

Need something twisty and fantastical and beautifully written while you’re waiting for King’s Cage to come out? Try Dahvana-Headley’s quirky fantasy about a chronically ill girl who has yet to discover her true voice, which lies in a magical world above the clouds. Both series feature perfectly timed twists, high emotion and kickass female characters.

2. If you loved Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen, then read I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios.

Looking for a swoonworthy contemporary romance to read on the beach this summer but have already read everything Dessen has written more than three times? Try Demetrios’ exhilarating and poignant novel about an artist from a poor family whose dreams of art school are threatened who falls in love with a wounded warrior with PTSD. Demetrios matches Dessen’s emotional intensity and classic YA romance with a strong sense of place and an unforgettable story.

3. If you loved Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, then read We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach.

Is apocalyptic fiction your thing? If you loved Pfeffer’s book about a girl struggling to cope and survive to her new life when an asteroid strikes the moon, then you should check out Wallach’s gritty, punk rock infused novel about four teens struggling with matters of life and death as an asteroid hurdles toward Earth. Both novels share a sense of dense of urgency and feature vulnerable protagonists handling huge questions of mortality and humanity.
